Key Stage 1

Throughout Key Stage 1 our pupils follow the National Curriculum in the core subjects of Maths, English and Science, and the 8 Foundation subjects of History, Geography, ICT, Design and Technology, Music, Art, PE, RE and PSCHE.

It is the school's policy that each child learns wherever possible through practical experience with planned activities to give continuity and progression. Planning is guided by the National Numeracy and Literacy Frameworks in Maths and English and QCA recommendations in foundation subjects. To do this, the staff plan together to give a structured approach using all the resources available. This ensures that the whole curriculum is broad, balanced and covered by each child according to his /her ability. Delivery of the curriculum is a mix of subject based lessons and a cross curriculuar approach.

In an effort to encompass the principles of Excellence and Enjoyment the curriculum is enhanced by visits, visitors and out-of-school activites.

Rigorous Assessment is on-going throughout the Key Stage with formal teacher assessment in the core subjects taking place at the end of Year 2.
