Foundation
In Reception class school follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which consists of six areas of learning:-
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
Each area has a set of early learning goals. A pupils progress is assessed using the Early Years Foundation Stage profile which covers the six areas of learning. Parents are informed of their child's progress at parents consultation evenings.
Delivery of the curriculum in Reception is by continuous provision in a well organised high quality learning environment and achievement is high. Some areas of the curriculum are delivered to the whole class working together, many in smaller groups, and oftern one to one.
A key element of the Reception class learing environment is the opportunity for learning through play and the availability of child iinitiated activities.
The curriculum is enhanced by focused and structured activities in which children often work in adult directed age, ability or friendship groups.
